Best Time to Visit COSTA RICA
December to April is the dry season and our most recommended window for most of Costa Rica. The skies are clear, the roads are accessible and the wildlife viewing across the country, including the Osa Peninsula and Corcovado National Park, is at its finest. The Pacific coast including the Papagayo Peninsula is at its most beautiful and the sea conditions are excellent for boating and diving.
May to November is the green season, with afternoon rainfall across most of the country and the landscape at its most lush and most extraordinary. The wildlife is often more active during this period and the cloud forests, including Monteverde, are at their most atmospheric, with mist moving through the canopy throughout the day. The rivers, including the Pacuare, are at their highest and most exciting for white-water rafting.
June to August is a brief, less rainy period within the green season known locally as the veranillo, the little summer, which offers a useful combination of lush landscape and manageable rainfall for those wanting to avoid both the peak dry season crowds and the heaviest rains of September and October.
