Best Time to Visit namibia
May to October is the dry season and the best time to visit Namibia for wildlife and desert exploration. Vegetation thins and animals gather around waterholes in Etosha, making game viewing some of the most rewarding on the continent. In the desert, cooler temperatures make long drives and guided walks far more comfortable, and the light across the dunes of Sossusvlei is extraordinary — particularly at dawn and dusk. Expect clear skies, minimal rainfall and temperatures between 20°C and 30°C (68°F to 86°F).
June to August represents the peak of the dry season and is ideal for those prioritising Etosha game drives and close-up wildlife encounters. With no vegetation obscuring sightlines and animals concentrated at known water sources, this is the optimal window for lion, elephant, rhino and leopard sightings. Nights can be cool, particularly in the highlands around Windhoek and the Fish River Canyon.
November to April brings the green season — the Namibian landscape transforms dramatically, with desert flowers blooming across the Namib and migratory birds arriving in large numbers. While some tracks become difficult after heavy rains, this is the most visually stunning time to photograph the dunes and experience Namibia's quieter, more intimate side.
