WHY VISIT SOUTH AFRICA?
South Africa is the most diverse destination on the African continent and the one that most consistently exceeds expectations. It is a country where you can track lions on foot through a private game reserve at dawn, eat at a restaurant that would hold its own against the finest tables in the world at lunch and watch the sun set over the Atlantic from a cliff above Cape Town in the evening. No other destination in Africa offers that combination within a single day's drive.
The safari experience in the great private game reserves of the Greater Kruger, where specialist guides have spent years developing an intimate knowledge of specific animals and their territories, offers a depth and a quality that the national park experience cannot replicate. Walking safaris, night drives and the particular silence of the African bush before dawn are available here in ways that most East Africa destinations cannot provide.
Beyond the safari, Cape Town is by common consensus the most beautiful city in Africa, a place of extraordinary physical drama where Table Mountain rises directly above the city and the Atlantic and Indian Oceans converge below. The Winelands of Franschhoek and Stellenbosch produce wines of genuine international standing in a landscape of mountain valleys and Cape Dutch architecture that is among the most beautiful wine country in the world.
Many travellers combine South Africa with Tanzania for a broader East and Southern Africa circuit, or with Rwanda to add gorilla trekking to a Big Five safari. Kenya and Namibia are both natural extensions for those designing a comprehensive Africa journey.

Best Time to Visit SOUTH AFRICA
May to September is widely regarded as the finest time for a luxury safari in South Africa. The dry winter months bring sparse vegetation and wildlife concentrating around water sources, making game viewing in the Greater Kruger, Sabi Sand, and Madikwe exceptional. Skies are cloudless, days are warm, and nights are crisp — ideal conditions for early-morning game drives and open-vehicle safaris.
October to April marks South Africa's summer season and the best time to visit Cape Town, the Winelands, and the Garden Route. The Cape is at its most beautiful — warm, sunny, and alive with wildflowers from August onwards. This is also the green season in the bush, when migratory birds arrive, newborn wildlife appears, and rates at many private lodges are lower.
Year-round, South Africa rewards the discerning traveller. Whale watching along the Hermanus coastline peaks between July and November, the Winelands harvest runs from February to April, and Cape Town's celebrated restaurant and arts scene offers world-class experiences in any season. Our specialists will match your travel dates to the experiences that matter most to you.

The Garden Route extends the journey eastward along one of the world's most scenic coastal drives.
KRUGER & THE PRIVATE GAME RESERVES: BIG FIVE SAFARIS & WILDERNESS LODGES
South Africa's bushveld is home to some of Africa's finest private safari experiences. Discover a South Africa far beyond the well-trodden tourist trail. The Zulu heartland of KwaZulu-Natal offers rich cultural immersion, private guided heritage experiences, and world-class game viewing in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi, Africa's oldest proclaimed nature reserve. Inland, the soaring peaks and ancient rock art of the Drakensberg Mountains reward those seeking drama, solitude, and some of southern Africa's most spectacular scenery.
MADIKWE & THE NORTH: MALARIA-FREE SAFARIS & EXCLUSIVE PRIVATE RESERVES
Bordering Botswana in South Africa's North West Province, Madikwe Game Reserve is one of the country's best-kept luxury safari secrets, and one of its largest protected areas. Entirely malaria-free and home to all of the Big Five including a thriving wild dog population, Madikwe offers an intimate, uncrowded alternative to Kruger, with a handful of exceptional private lodges offering the highest standards of guiding and hospitality. It pairs naturally with a stay in the nearby Pilanesberg National Park or as a seamless extension to a Botswana safari.

THE GARDEN ROUTE: COASTLINE, FOREST & PRIVATE ADVENTURE
Journey along one of the world's most scenic coastal drives on a fully tailored private itinerary, through ancient Knysna forests and turquoise lagoons, past the dramatic Tsitsikamma cliffs and secluded private beaches of Plettenberg Bay. Encounters with African penguins at Boulders Beach, private whale watching off the Hermanus coastline, and exclusive stays in boutique clifftop lodges make the Garden Route a destination of remarkable diversity, as compelling for the nature lover as for the gourmet traveller.
THE WINELANDS: FRANSCHHOEK, STELLENBOSCH & PRIVATE ESTATE EXPERIENCES
Discover South Africa's world-class wine country on a private, expertly guided journey through the vine-covered valleys of Franschhoek and Stellenbosch, two of the southern hemisphere's most celebrated wine destinations. Private cellar tours at iconic estates, lunches at restaurants consistently ranked among the world's finest, horse riding through morning mist above the valley floor, and exclusive stays at boutique manor hotels combine to create a journey that is as much about culture and cuisine as it is about extraordinary wine.
Frequently Asked Questions About Traveling to SOUTH AFRICA
-
The best time depends on which experiences you are prioritising. For safari in Kruger and the private reserves, May to September is the dry season when vegetation thins and wildlife concentrates around water sources, making game viewing exceptional. For Cape Town and the Garden Route, November to February is summer with long warm days, excellent conditions for wine tasting and whale watching along the coast. October and November offer a compelling combination of both, with the beginning of the Cape summer and still excellent safari conditions in the north.
-
We recommend a minimum of ten to twelve days for a journey combining Cape Town, the Winelands and a safari in a private reserve. Those wanting to add the Garden Route, the Drakensberg, a walking safari or a multi-country extension into Botswana, Zimbabwe or Namibia should plan for fourteen days or more. South Africa is deceptively large and the distances between its major experiences require proper time allocation to avoid spending the journey in transit.
-
Kruger National Park is one of the largest game reserves in the world and offers extraordinary wildlife, but it is also open to a large number of self-drive visitors. A private concession bordering Kruger, or a private reserve in areas like Sabi Sand, MalaMala or Timbavati, offers exclusive access to the same ecosystem with far fewer vehicles, night drives that are not permitted in Kruger itself, walking safaris and a level of intimacy with the wildlife that changes the experience entirely. For a luxury private safari, a private reserve is almost always the right choice.
-
Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and most visitors barely scratch the surface. Beyond Table Mountain and the V&A Waterfront, a private Cape Town experience includes a morning drive along Chapman's Peak at sunrise before the road opens to traffic, a private tasting at a boutique Constantia wine estate with the winemaker, a visit to the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, a private boat trip to see the African penguin colony at Boulders Beach and an evening in the neighbourhood restaurants of Woodstock and De Waterkant that feel entirely local. The Cape Peninsula alone deserves a full day with a private guide who knows its every viewpoint.
-
The Cape Winelands, centred around Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl, is one of the most beautiful wine regions in the world and one of the most underrated. Rolling mountains, historic Cape Dutch estates and a wine culture that has been producing world-class bottles for over three centuries make it a destination in its own right rather than simply an add-on to Cape Town. A private day in the Winelands visiting three or four estates, tasting with the winemakers rather than at a public counter and ending with a long lunch on a vineyard terrace is one of the finest days available anywhere in South Africa.
-
South Africa requires sensible precautions in urban areas and we always brief our clients thoroughly on this before travel. The experiences covered on a private luxury itinerary, including Cape Town's Atlantic Seaboard and Winelands, private game reserves, the Garden Route and the Drakensberg, are all well-established for international visitors. Our local guides and partners are present throughout every journey and the logistical security of a private itinerary removes the situations where independent travellers are most vulnerable.
-
South Africa pairs naturally with Namibia for a dramatic southern Africa circuit, with Zimbabwe for those wanting to add Victoria Falls, with Botswana for the Okavango Delta, or with Tanzania and Kenya for a broader African journey combining southern and East Africa in a single trip. We design all multi-country itineraries as fully private and tailor-made.
-
US, UK, EU, Canadian and Australian passport holders do not require a visa for stays of up to 90 days in South Africa. We always confirm the latest entry requirements for your specific passport before travel, as regulations can change.
